About Asbestos Cancer - Mesothelioma - Lung Cancer
A common form of magnesium silicate which was used in various construction products due to it's stability and resistance to fire. Asbestos exposure by inhaling loose asbestos fibers is associated with various forms of lung disease.

It has been proven through the production of company documents and testimony given in prior lawsuits that the large manufacturers of asbestos containing products and silica were well aware of the dangerous health consequences by 1930. It was proven that some of these manufacturers actively conspired to keep these hazards secret.

MESOTHELIOMA SYMPTOMS
The early symptoms of mesothelioma are generally non-specific, and may lead to a delay in diagnosis. Sometimes resembling viral pneumonia, pleural mesothelioma patients may present with shortness of breath, chest pain and/or persistent cough; some patients show no symptoms at all. A chest x-ray may show a build-up of fluid or pleural effusion. The right lung is affected 60% of the time, with involvement of both lungs being seen in approximately 5% of patients at the time of diagnosis. Less common symptoms of pleural mesothelioma include fever, night sweats and weight loss. Symptoms of peritoneal mesothelioma may include pain or swelling in the abdomen due to a build-up of fluid, nausea, weight loss, bowel obstruction, anemia or swelling of the feet.

MESOTHELIOMA  CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT
Workers compensation laws were passed at the request of the insurance companies and their insureds like Johns-Manville to protect them from being sued by their employees for diseases such as silicosis or asbestosis. By the late 1930's, many states' workman's compensation laws compensated individuals for asbestos disease. The first known asbestos lawsuits were filed in 1929 in New Jersey. Libby class action lawsuit, 321,000 tons of ore shipped throughout the Bay Area that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency now says was laced with dangerous levels of cancer-causing asbestos. It came from a mine in Libby, Mont., where one in seven residents in the surrounding valley have lungs permanently scarred from asbestos. It ended here, as attic insulation in homes throughout the East Bay, as fire-proof coating on San Francisco high-rises and as soil additive in nurseries and gardens everywhere

1983 - The Consumer Product Safety Commission and the Milton Bradley Company of Springfield, Massachusetts, have been advised that asbestos has been found in packages of Milton Bradley's "Fibro-Clay", a school art modeling compound used to make paper mache'. The company is voluntarily recalling the product. Milton Bradley made Fibro-Clay from 1967 until 1975, when it ceased manufacture of the product. The firm stated that no asbestos has been used in the formula since 1972. Asbestos has been shown to cause cancer of the lung and other organs according to studies of workers and others exposed to asbestos. The Commission is concerned that children in schools where Fibro-Clay is used might be exposed to airborne asbestos in view of the powdered composition of the productIf you have questions regarding this contamination,.

1980 -The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall of more than one-half million hair dryers and styling combs which were manufactured with asbestos. The recall includes professional hand-held hair dryers sold for use in barber shops and hair salons.
